Who'd Like A Cocktail? #115

Zatanna makes a whole lot of sense

  • GREEN ARROW #8 - Yay! Etrigan the Demon. Okay, a slightly clunky way of introducing him, but he's always nice to see. Krul's Mr. Terrific, on the other hand, seems unusually boorish and belligerent, not his normal self. Oh, and the rest of the world finally starts to notice there's a bloody great forest in the middle of Star City.
  • THE BOYS: HIGHLAND LADDIE #6 - Man, Hughie's messed up. Ennis wanders from the absurd to the touching to the maudlin with effortless ease and you really can't help feeling for poor Wee Hughie at the end of it.
  • JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST #18 - Winick simply can't get over the fact that Power Girl and Captain Atom were part of the European branch of the JLI - they really didn't hang out with the American lot that much. Still, it was kinda funny to see Booster as Batman! One big fight later, though, and the team have convinced the mind-controlled Power Girl that they're not the bad guys, allowing her to remember who is. Meanwhile, Max Lord tortures Blue Beetle and lets slip a couple of facts, most important of all that this whole global mind-wipe thing was a one-shot deal - he won't be doing this again any time soon. Which is probably best for all concerned.
  • JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #47 - Looks like Dr. Mid-Nite's planning to confront the problem of Green Lantern's broken neck while Dr. Fate's off trying to save Lightning's soul . . . by taking it to what looks like Cthulhu's favourite picnic spot. Still not happy about Guggenheim's treatment of Mr. Terrific, either, though I don't for a second think Terrific's really caved in to blackmail - while it appears he has, it'll only be to turn it against the bad guy in the end.
  • TEEN TITANS #91 - A black hole: isn't that what every High School needs in its basement? And who'd have thought Ravager would be the one recommending restraint when dealing with people trying to beat the crap out of you? Nice to see her and the new Robin actually connecting as well. And then Superboy goes and behaves like a dick, breaking up with Wonder Girl just before she's about to tell him she wants to carry on. Just once I'd like this somewhat cliched scene to play out differently.
  • ZATANNA #9 - It's still a nice change to see a conflict resolved in a superhero book by talking rather than fighting (not that I have anything against a good punch-up) so this was a breath of fresh air. Not to mention the splendid back-up story. This is still a damn fine series, people, and if you're not getting it - shame on you!
And what made me smile:

Who wouldn't want their shell back?
